Abnormal
Abnormal is a leader in cybersecurity (Gartner Magic Quadrant top spot for email security) seeking a Senior Software Engineer to drive development of their Account Takeover protection platform. You'd own end-to-end technical delivery on complex features, designing and scaling backend systems that detect malicious activity and safeguard customers from account theft. The role balances hands-on engineering with production ownership, stakeholder management, and team mentorship, with a focus on improving system reliability, reducing latency, and accelerating feature releases. This position suits experienced backend engineers with 7+ years building production systems at scale. You'll need strong Python expertise, familiarity with large-scale system design, relational databases, service-to-service communication (gRPC, Kafka), caching layers (Redis), and AWS cloud services. Additional experience with Docker, Kubernetes, monitoring, incident response, and technical design documentation is essential. You should think systematically about architecture, write high-quality resilient code, and be comfortable leveraging modern developer tools like GenAI assistants. The role is fully remote based in the UK and requires someone who thrives in async-first environments, collaborates across product and design teams, and can mentor peers while influencing engineering practices. Leadership qualities and growth mindset are central—you'll be expected to independently lead projects and contribute to long-term technical roadmaps.
