As a Gameplay Engineer at Cloud Chamber within 2K, you'll translate creative vision into functional gameplay systems that make player interactions feel responsive and impactful. Working alongside design, art, animation, and audio teams under an Associate Technical Director, you'll architect and implement core gameplay features—from character controls and camera systems to weapon mechanics—primarily using Unreal Engine 5. Your role involves both modifying existing tech and building new solutions to support the studio's creative ambitions for the upcoming BioShock project. This position suits engineers with at least three years of industry experience and a proven track record on gameplay engineering teams. You'll need strong proficiency in C/C++ with solid 3D mathematics knowledge, comfort with object-oriented design patterns, and familiarity with player-centric systems (the "3Cs" of character, camera, and controls). Console development background and hands-on Unreal Engine experience are expected, along with sharp debugging skills and a commitment to code quality and thorough testing. Cloud Chamber values collaborative problem-solvers who communicate clearly across disciplines, stay informed about industry advancements, and proactively identify technical risks. The role is based in Novato, California. The studio emphasizes maintaining high standards while embracing innovation and supporting a healthy team environment.
