# Technical Lead, Developer Experience at Ably (UK)

Ably is seeking a Technical Lead for Developer Experience to lead the charge in transforming how developers interact with their realtime infrastructure platform. You'll report to the CTO and partner with the product lead to elevate Ably's dashboard, documentation, and control plane into an industry-leading experience. Leading a team of five engineers, you'll own the technical vision and architecture for customer-facing applications while fostering a culture where engineers are genuine stakeholders in product decisions rather than feature factories.

Day-to-day, you'll blend hands-on full-stack engineering with leadership responsibilities—writing code alongside your team, conducting rigorous code reviews, and championing rapid iteration cycles where PMs, customers, and engineers co-create solutions. You'll drive adoption of AI-assisted development tools to accelerate velocity, mentor engineers toward product leadership, and participate in incident response and deployments. Your work directly impacts the platform your own team uses, creating an immediate feedback loop.

This role suits senior engineers with deep experience leading product-minded teams at B2B SaaS or API-first companies who genuinely care about developer experience. You'll need strong full-stack skills in React, TypeScript, and JavaScript alongside backend knowledge in Ruby on Rails or Node.js, combined with an intuitive grasp of API design and documentation quality.
