# Senior Machine Learning Engineer, Relevance and Personalization (Query Intelligence) at Airbnb

Airbnb's Relevance and Personalization team is seeking a senior machine learning engineer to lead query intelligence initiatives that power search across the platform. You'll develop AI systems that interpret guest queries—whether typed, spoken, or tapped—into actionable intent signals. The work spans autocomplete, smart compose, entity tagging, query expansion, and intent modeling across Stays, Experiences, and Services. Day-to-day responsibilities include building and improving large-scale ML models for query understanding, developing NLP and LLM-powered search capabilities, and productionizing models for both batch and real-time serving. This position requires 5+ years of applied machine learning experience with a master's or PhD in a relevant field. You'll need strong programming skills in Scala, Python, Java, or C++, plus deep expertise in ML best practices, neural networks, and domains like NLP, personalization, and search. Familiarity with at least three technologies from this set is essential: TensorFlow, PyTorch, Kubernetes, Spark, Airflow, Kafka, and data warehouses like Hive. Prior experience building end-to-end ML pipelines and working with large language models is expected. The role is based in the United States.
